Timeline:Archetyp
Archetyp Market, commonly referred to as Archetyp, was a darknet marketplace launched on 17 May 2020. It was known for focusing primarily on drug sales, requiring an invite for vendors, and adopting Monero (XMR) as its sole payment currency. At the time of its demise it was described by Europol as "the most enduring dark web marketplace", having operated for over five years, with an estimated 600,000 users and 3,200 vendors, and at least €250 million in drug transactions processed.
Seizure
Between 11 and 13 June 2025, law enforcement authorities from six countries (Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the United States), supported by Europol and Eurojust, dismantled Archetyp Market in an operation dubbed Operation Deep Sentinel. The operation was led by Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).
Around 300 officers took part in the coordinated action. The market's alleged administrator, a 30-year-old German national, was arrested in Barcelona, Spain, alongside a moderator and six of the marketplace's top vendors. Servers hosting the marketplace were seized and approximately €7.8 million in criminal assets, including cryptocurrency, was confiscated.
The seizure of Archetyp was followed by widespread speculation on Dread, and the forum itself suffered an extended outage weeks later which its administrator attributed to DDoS attacks.
