DarkMarket was a darknet market launched on 20 June 2020. Operating with servers abroad, it grew rapidly to near the top of the English-language ecosystem, with allegedly over 320,000 users and at least €170 million in cryptocurrency traded across the site's lifetime.
On 11-13 January 2021, German police seized the market's servers, and Europol announced the takedown alongside international partners. The alleged operator, an Australian man, was arrested near the German-Danish border, and 20 servers hosting the site were confiscated. The seizure passed intelligence leads to agencies worldwide.
